roof capsule

London

Concept design

Our proposal for a self-contained hotel room situated on a roof-top in Central London draws inspiration from the observation platforms on TV towers and the 360-degree-view they provide.

The fully glazed structure sits like an autonomous object on a roof and rejects any contextual reference. Comparable to a landed spacecraft, guests are hermetically protected from their external environment. Like astronauts, they can observe the outside world without taking part in it.

Mirrored structural fins wrap around the glass façade, affording distorted reflections of the visual reality from both within and outside the ‘capsule’.

Designed as a lightweight prefabricated module, the building can be taken apart and be easily transported to a new location.
